State Senate candidate Russ Bogh's reaction to Governor Schwarzenegger's
State of the State Address
The Governor's state-of-the-state today was a repeat of what we've been
hearing out of Sacramento for the last few years. Instead of more blah,
blah, blah, it's time for fundamental change and real action. California's
economic crisis is too deep and too serious for more Hollywood stunts. We
need genuine tax and budget reform- and we need to restore trust in state
government by holding our elected leaders accountable for what they promise.
To start, we need to put an immediate stop to more reckless borrowing that's
killing our economy - like the proposed $11 billion water bond that's full
of pork. Mortgaging our children's economic future with a bond proposal that
doesn't solve the problem, isn't the answer. We should be paying down our
debt, not dumping it on our children.
We also need to put the brakes to excessive job-killing regulations - like
AB 32, the Governor's green house gas bill that will put another bullet in
California's economy.
And we've got to lighten the tax load for families and businesses, not add
to it - to free more money for savings, investment, jobs creation and
economic development.
Clearly, we need to dramatically change the way government conducts the
people's business. We need to kick government in the pants. That's what
I'll do in the State Senate, where I'll put my business experience and
conservative values to work to get this state back on track.
